We have created a safe refuge for destitute girls aged 6-18 from underprivileged families that are unable to care for them. At present we have children from economically backward communities and also from homes where the children face safety and security challenges.
Currently, there are 40 children residing at the home. The younger ones go to school, while the older ones are enrolled at universities for higher education or admitted to vocational training centres. In addition, those who need it, get extra education support and life skill development opportunities. They attend prayer sessions and yoga classes.
Once they are self-reliant they reunite with their families. The organisation also helps them find partners and settle down in marriage. Some of them are employed at the institution while others are encouraged to seek jobs outside.
Dormitories with common bathrooms and toilets, vegetarian food, and clothes including uniforms are provided.
A boon for working women from low-income groups, the hostel is a self-supporting centre, run on a no-loss-no-profit basis.
Donated by the State Bank of India, the ambulance service is available for local residents.
We run a Government-aided higher secondary school for students from Classes V to XII. There are 700 students studying there in addition to the children from the home.
Support for the differently abled
Over the years, Mahila Mandiram has provided relief and shelter to many poor and helpless women who are differently abled. Here are a few success stories that have inspired us to strive harder.
