On 4th October 1918 Smt. K. Chinnamma, Inspector of schools in the former Travancore State started a child care centre in a rented building with 12 girls as residents in commemoration of the 60th birth day celebrations of late H.H. Sri Mulam Thirunal Maharaja of Travancore.
In 1920 the Institution was registered as a Charitable Organisation. Pursuant to the Articles of Association a Committee for management was constituted by seven lady members of the Association.
